Alfonso Palencia was born 1976 in Valencia, Spain where he started his dance education at the State Conservatory of Dance in 1985 and continued his studies at the Centre International de Danse Rosella Hightower in Cannes with a scholarship from the Paris Dance Foundation. After with a scholarship at the San Francisco Ballet School in 1992. He completed his dance education and graduated in classical and modern dance at the Hamburg Ballet School in 1995 and danced several ballets from John Neumeier with the Hamburg Ballet. He was awarded a special prize in several international ballet competitions in France, where he received the prize of Danse et Solidarité in Bordaux and the prize Prix des Journalistes in Paris. He was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Spain.
In 1995 Alfonso joined Ballet Schindowski in Gelsenkirchen State Theater and then joined Ballet Theater Munich at Staatstheater am Gärtneplatz in 1997 as a Soloist. He also danced in the following Ballet companies, Komische Oper Berlin, Leipzig Ballet, Czech National Ballet, National Ballet of Portugal and Augsburg Ballet. He performed a large Repertoire of solo roles including works by William Forsythe, Jiri Kylián, Uwe Scholz, John Cranko, John Neumeier, George Balanchine, Heinz Spoerli, Mauro Bigonzetti, Hans Van Manen and Itzik Galili among others.
In 2011 after a successfully dancer career as a Soloist, Alfonso started teaching and choreographing at Augsburg Ballet.
In 2012 he was offered the position of Ballet Master and choreographer assistant for the Eisenach State Ballet Theater.
In 2013 he was final competitor invited as Choreographer at the renowned International Ballet and Choreography Competition in Beijing, with his Choreography Visions, created for the Eisenach Ballet, that same year, he created as well works including Bach Concerto Rooms, Protective Duality and Reflections for the Eisenach Ballet.
In 2014 Alfonso became the ballet master and assistant choreographer at the Ballet Hagen Theater and featured many choreographic works in Musicals, Operas and Operettas productions. He has served as a guest ballet master, teacher and choreographer for several ballet companies, ballet schools and Universities of Arts in Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Hong Kong, Czech Republic and South Korea.
In 2017 Alfonso was designated Ballet Director of the Hagen Ballet Theater, he has directed and created several ballet productions for the company including Dancing Souls, Cinderella and Move On among others. Alfonso ́s Ballet works have been acclaim from dance Magazines, as „Dance for You“ and „Tanz International“. His work is emotional touching in a contemporary and neoclassical unique style that reaches Audiences.
Since 2019 he works as Freelance Ballet Master and Choreographer internationally.
Through a cooperation with Network Organ Donation NRW, he was Award winner Artist and won the prize for the promotion of organ donation by the German transplant society in 2021 with his choreography, „ Organ Dance Changes Lives „.
In 2021 Alfonso has been designated Ballet Director and chief Choreographer of the State Theater Ballet Bremerhaven where he will start at the Season 2022/23.
